One-day itineraries

Field-tested templates with departure times, dwell ranges, and honest warnings when a pairing fails on Fridays.

Each template below assumes departure from the Fifth Settlement near South Academy Street. Adjust plus or minus fifteen minutes for compounds on North 90th or the Waterway. Templates are free; customization with phone walkthrough belongs to Day Runner tier.

Template C — East Cairo foot cluster

Depart 8:30, drive to Old Cairo parking near Coptic Museum. Sequence: Coptic Museum (75 min), Hanging Church exterior walk (20 min), Ben Ezra Synagogue if open (30 min), lunch in courtyard cafés (60 min). Return by 3:00 p.m. before school traffic on return arterials.

Pair with east Cairo museums dossier for security notes. Families should read family quick tours for stroller stairs at Hanging Church viewpoint.

Historic Coptic Cairo street with stone churches

Template D — AUC Tahrir plus Egyptian Museum

Weekday only—AUC Tahrir gallery often closed weekends. Depart 9:00, park near Tahrir, campus gallery 45 minutes, walk to Egyptian Museum if operational wings open 90 minutes. Lunch at Falaki or hotel cafés. Heavy security zone—carry ID. Return before 4:00 p.m. Nile Corniche traffic toward east.

Combinations we discourage

GEM + NMEC same day unless East Coordinator tier with driver. Three major paid museums any day. Old Cairo foot cluster in July midday heat without shade breaks.

Customize a template

Submit travel date and compound on contact. Day Runner tier adds Friday alternate and phone review with Layla.

Template E — Winter NMEC plus Fustat gardens

December through February: depart 9:00, NMEC galleries 10:15–12:30, royal mummy hall 12:30–13:15, lunch café 13:15–14:00, Fustat garden walk if winds calm 14:00–14:45, return New Cairo 16:00. Gardens optional in summer.

Template F — Corporate guest highlight reel

Weekday only: GEM ninety-minute express with pre-booked timed entry, lunch at Giza plateau hotel terrace, return to Fifth Settlement compound by 15:00 for meetings. Requires East Coordinator driver sheet. No shopping unless guest requests.

Buffer rules we apply to every template

Add fifteen minutes per child under eight. Add ten minutes if your compound gate requires visitor pass printing. Subtract five minutes only if you have walked the museum before and skip gift shop. Never subtract from drive legs on Fridays. Add twenty minutes when driving yourself if you are new to Ring Road merges.

Lunch placement philosophy

We place lunch mid-itinerary when drives exceed fifty minutes one-way—never before leaving New Cairo unless you depart pre-dawn. GEM visitors should eat after Tutankhamun wing before boat hall fatigue sets in. NMEC café suits lunch after mummy hall when emotional weight needs pause.

Template comparison quick pick

First-time Cairo residents: Template A GEM only. Returning families: Template B NMEC. Guests wanting walkable history: Template C. Academic visitors: Template D weekday. Winter garden lovers: Template E. Corporate time boxes: Template F.

Post-trip debrief habit

Photograph actual timestamps at museum entry and car return for three trips—compare to our tables and email variance over fifteen minutes to [email protected]. Your compound-specific data improves community accuracy more than generic travel forums ever could.

Holiday blackouts

Eid al-Fitr and al-Adha first days often close museums entirely—do not use templates those dates without desk confirmation. Coptic Christmas and local feast days may shorten hours unpredictably. Check official ministry announcements the night before any public holiday template. Substitute mall pop-up days per shopping guides when museums fully closed. Template labels in PDF exports include holiday warning footers each quarter. Winter templates assume daylight saving is not observed locally. Corporate guests should confirm visa timing separately from museum hours.
